Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine views the body as a dynamic system. Majority of diseases are the result of the system falling out of balance. The imbalance creates an environment that is suitable for pathogens to attack the body such as influenza, skin infection or urinary tract infection. The imbalance can lead to many internal problems as well, such as inflammation, poor circulation, muscles stiffness, hormonal dysfunction, digestive issues, overactive immune responses, tumors, arthritis, etc. Many injuries except those caused by accidents are also caused by the underlined imbalance, such as low back pain or ankle sprain.

When the balance of the body is restored, external pathogens can be removed, internal functions can be normalized, damaged tissues can regrow. This is the philosophy of Chinese medicine. Following this principle we can successfully recover from diseases as well as maintain a long-term health.

This medicine has been the primary health care in China for more than 2500 years because its efficacy has been proven countless times. It has uninterrupted history of development dating back thousands of years in China and other parts of East Asia, making it one of the oldest and most long-standing health care in the world.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine. An acupuncturist inserts needles into a patient on acupuncture points (called acupoints) to stimulate his or her body. As the needles are external objects, the body will increase blood circulation and other humoral immune responses in the surrounding tissues of the acupoints.

The acupuncturist will manipulate the needles in a way, so called “de-qi” (gaining qi), to raise a stronger response from the body, which in turn will promote the self healing power of the body and therefore the body can reduce inflammations, remove or kill pathogens and recover from diseases. Since there is no synthetic pharmaceuticals entering patient’s body, acupuncture is a purely natural way to restore and maintain your health.

While acupuncture is the most popular form of Chinese medicine practiced in US, there are numerous modalities such as Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, tui na and nutrition.
